West Ham's manager Confident West Ham Can Transform as Squad Members Take Responsibility for Recent Struggles

West Ham's head coach has declared that the team's squad are ready to change and have taken responsibility for the club's disappointing results over the last year and a half.

The Portuguese manager, who is the third head coach since the previous manager left at the end of the previous campaign, is striving to shift the mood in the locker room after taking over from his predecessor last weekend. The London club have been short on guidance, and there is a widespread acknowledgment among the players that they played a role to Potter losing his job after eight months.

“I find a nice group of individuals,” the manager stated. “They're beginning to understand that we must improve our approach. Without change, results will remain unchanged. The players are ready to adapt. It's evident. Therefore, let's embrace it and let’s change it.”

“This applies from skill-based, tactical, physical, mindset, discipline, dialogue. Communication is such an important asset for us. We still don’t have it fully. It must become a honest and transparent exchange that we all participate in. They have held themselves responsible and are prepared to go.”

Nuno's Current Priorities

Nuno has had little time to adjust. He hasn't assembled his coaching team yet, and the former Forest manager is avoiding thoughts about what West Ham, 19th before visiting Arsenal on Saturday, can accomplish this season. “My role is straightforward,” he said. “It’s tomorrow.”

Set-Piece Concerns Facing West Ham

A major concern for the coach is improving his side’s defending at dead-ball situations. West Ham have conceded multiple goals from corners this term – the most recent goal allowed came in his debut, Monday’s tie at Everton – and will be under sustained pressure from set plays against Arsenal. The concern for Nuno is that it turns into a mental problem.

“That's possible,” he said. “But we will try to prevent it. The worst thing that can happen is that if an rival gets a corner, we start right away believing that we are in trouble. It can develop into a trauma.”
