Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in P17 as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
